AnagramsCategory: English pluralsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A funeral is a ceremony marking a person's death. Funerary customs comprise the complex of beliefs and practices used by a culture to remember the dead, from the funeral itself, to various monuments, prayers, and rituals undertaken in their honour. These customs vary widely between cultures, and between religious affiliations within cultures. In some cultures the dead are venerated; this is commonly called ancestor worship. The word funeral comes from the Latin funus, which had a variety of meanings, including the corpse and the funerary rites themselves. Funeral rites are as old as the human culture itself, predating modern homo sapiens, to at least 300,000 years ago. For example, in the Shanidar cave in Iraq, in Pontnewydd Cave in Wales and other sites across Europe and the Near East, Neanderthal skeletons have been discovered with a characteristic layer of pollen, which suggests that Neanderthals buried the dead with gifts of flowers. This has been interpreted as suggesting that Neanderthals believed in an afterlife. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do Muslim funerals differ in the US compared to other countries? Q. I know in some countries the body is cleaned immediately, wrapped and buried in the ground. In the US there are burial rules where the body is em-bombed, placed in a casket, a steel container is placed in the ground and the casket placed inside it. In the US do Muslim funerals have to follow the above rules? Asked by Angel - Mon Dec 14 21:53:46 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. No caskets, same rules, there is no difference, mosques arrange all that. I have seen women go the grave site for burials. This is the only difference I guess. I have seen women not to to grave site when I attended a burial in a Muslim country. Body is washed and wrapped in a white cloth and buried. They are protesting the war at the funerals of military people that have died in the war Asked by ougal - Thu Mar 15 13:47:06 2007 - - 52 Answers - 0 Comments A. Prostesting war at military funerals is really disrespectful and I cant believe that anyone would do such a thing. For people to do that is like saying that the life that was tooken in this war is a waste and not reconized as that soldier sacraficing his life for the sake of the american people Answered by moonlilystar - Thu Mar 15 13:51:16 2007 How would you feel attending a funeral with a big sign "I think funerals are stupid- [dead person's name]"?
Q. I'd like to request it at my funeral, but I doubt people would follow my instruction. Like being born into a religion I had no say in, I'll probably be buried after a funeral I didn't want either. If I had a tombstone I'd like the quote "don't you have something better to do than be here?" Funerals are a bit of a non-issue to me. When I die I hope I'm in the woods and not found, the scavengers would benefit then, but funerals cost money and benefit no one.
