Adjectivefuneral (not comparable) Positive funeral Superlative none (absolute) From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A funeral is a ceremony marking a person's death. Funerary customs comprise the complex of beliefs and practices used by a culture to remember the dead, from the funeral itself, to various monuments, prayers, and rituals undertaken in their honour. These customs vary widely between cultures, and between religious affiliations within cultures. In some cultures the dead are venerated; this is commonly called ancestor worship. The word funeral comes from the Latin funus, which had a variety of meanings, including the corpse and the funerary rites themselves. Funeral rites are as old as the human culture itself, predating modern homo sapiens, to at least 300,000 years ago. For example, in the Shanidar cave in Iraq, in Pontnewydd Cave in Wales and other sites across Europe and the Near East, Neanderthal skeletons have been discovered with a characteristic layer of pollen, which suggests that Neanderthals buried the dead with gifts of flowers. This has been interpreted as suggesting that Neanderthals believed in an afterlife. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I'm thinking of applying for a receptionist job at a funeral home, but I'm not sure. It would be a terribly depressing place to work. What do you think? Anyone ever done that? Asked by any1_4wishing - Thu Aug 13 20:30:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments Is it proper to video tape a funeral service for hospitalized persons, and soldiers overseas?
Q. I feel that this is highly unconventional and wish that the circumstances were otherwise. However my mother's brother has passed and she is hospitalized and can not travel. In addition to that there are several other family members who are stationed over seas and will not be able to attend the funeral as well. Would it be alright to ask his wife if the funeral can be taped? I don't want to come off as insensitive. However my mother and her brother of 70 were very close and she's overwhelmed that she can not travel. Asked by Dani - Mon Apr 20 15:51:50 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. My father passed away 8 months ago and I decided on my own to both videotape parts of the service and take pictures throughout the service. I am so glad I did it! I can finally sit and watch the video and pictures and take time to really see what the service was like. It is also a special way for me to spend quiet private time with my father, although he is gone. I can assure you that you will get a mixture of answers here, but I can only tell you to do what is right for you... who cares what others think! I am glad I did it~ Answered by Nick's Mom - Mon Apr 20 16:01:39 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "funeral" |
